The Santa Cruz Community Counseling Center (SCCCC) has been serving Santa Cruz County since 1973, providing a broad spectrum of social services that heal, connect and nurture the mental, educational and social well-being of 6,000 children, individuals and families annually. We do this through our four service components: Child and Family Development Programs, Youth Services, Community Recovery Services, and Community Support Services.

Youth Services (YS) helps children, teens and families find constructive solutions to challenges that arise in school, at home, and with peers. Serving 2,000 youth and families each year, YS provides substance abuse treatment, emergency foster care, counseling and support.

Youth Services counseling is personalized to meet the individual needs of youth and to enhance the strengths and assets of each family. We provide individual, group and family counseling for youth and families facing the challenges that arise in the process of growing up.

Job Summary: 

Main objective is to help supervise and care for adolescents in both residential and mental health components of the program. Counselor actively participates in all daily activities and helps maintain program structure. Counselor helps support the residents and maintains the program structure. On-Call staff needed. Youth Services is part of Santa Cruz Community Counseling Center, Inc, a non-profit corporation. EOE

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Supervise residents with wake-up, and with serving breakfast/lunch /or dinner.
  • Supervise and direct resident work assignments.
  • If working during the evening, help assist residents with their homework assignments.
  • Participate in day treatment groups and help facilitate recreational and team building experiences with residents.
  • Provide medication monitoring and documentation.
  • Participate in all staff meetings and inter-agency meetings.
  • Be available to drive facility vehicle on essential errands (shopping, doctors' appointments, etc.)
  • Be available as on-call staff as needed.
  • Prepare meals according to the posted menu.
  • Help facilitate intake and admissions process.
  • Must be able to develop effective and meaningful relationships with teenagers.
  • Must be able to work effectively and cooperatively with staff and administration.
  • Assists adolescents in their social development (i.e. manners and other life skills.)
  • When responding to a child's needs and behavior, utilize decisions and actions that conform to the overall treatment plan and/or growth of the child.
Qualifications: 
  • Counselor with a HS/GED, AA or BA degree and a minimum of two years experience in working with adolescents.
  • Demonstrated ability working effectively on a team.
  • Wages and Benefits: $13.59/hr
