Early Childhood Education
Child and Family Development Programs recognizes the importance of the early years in children's learning and all aspects of their development. The following programs enrich this dynamic period of growth in children birth to five:
Early Head Start includes openings in an enhanced classroom environment supported by regular home visits located in Watsonville and a home visiting program serving families who live in the Santa Cruz and Watsonville-Freedom areas.
Head Start offers part-day preschool classes for children ages 3 to 5. Specific services for children focus on school readiness, social development, physical and mental health, and good nutrition. Head Start offers 11 preschool sites throughout the county. The home-based program enrolls families who reside in the north-, mid-, and south-county areas.
The State Preschool/Literacy program provides part day preschool classes to 4 year olds transitioning into kindergarten. The state program is offered only in the Watsonville area.
